There are many benefits to sealing concrete. Sealing concrete is not just to make the appearance of the concrete be more appealing. In fact, a lot of the sealers used to seal concrete don’t change the appearance of the concrete at all. There are two types of sealers: penetrating sealer’s and film forming sealer’s.

Penetrating Concrete Sealers

Penetrating sealers are sealers that soak into the concrete and chemically react with the concrete to produce a harder surface that is less prone to abrasions. They are also sometimes called concrete hardeners. Most of the penetrating sealer’s don’t change the surface look of the concrete, they are mainly used to protect the concrete from liquids soaking into the pours (which makes the concrete easier to clean), prevents algae from growing on the concrete, and the help prevents the concrete surface from eroding away. These types of sealer’s are not typically used with colored or stained concrete, but they can be if you want the colored concrete to look natural and not shiny.
Film forming sealers are sealers the soak very little into the concrete pores depending on the concrete surface profile. On dense concrete surfaces they will lay on the surface giving a darkened shiny appearance of the concrete. These sealer’s are used a lot in decorative concrete to enhance the colored concrete, and they are must for having stained concrete last a long time. They provide a wear surface on the concrete so as people are walking on the surface, the sealer starts to erode not the stained concrete. They do require do be re-sealed depending on how much traffic there will be on the sealed surface.
MVL Concrete cleans and seals interior and exterior concrete to help the longevity of the concrete. Cleaning and sealing prices range from $1.00 to $1.50 a square foot. The price depends on: how clean the concrete surface is, how rough the concrete surface is, the size of the area to be cleaned and sealed, and if it’s interior or exterior concrete that is to be cleaned and sealed.
