If you are planning on having the concrete floors stained in a new home or building, there are a few guidelines to help reduce the cost of the concrete floors and help the finish look of the concrete floors. Do not leave wood, sheet goods, and sections of framing on the concrete slab for long periods of time, this could cause the concrete to dis-color. Do not use any red, yellow or black chalks; they can permanently affect the look of the concrete floors. The framers should brace the wall on the outside and not on the concrete floor. Do not use spray paint or paint on the concrete floors for markings. Any metal that can rust should be picked off from the concrete floors, if not these will leave permanent rust stains on the concrete floors.

Cleaning and repairing the concrete floors in preparation of staining the concrete is costly. If possible cover the floors with masonite board or Ram Board while construction is going on.   We like to be able to stain the concrete floors after the drywall and orange peel has been placed, but before the paint and baseboards go on. This will reduce the cost of having to protect the paint and the baseboards with plastic and tape. Preferably, the last people in the building should be the painters and trim carpenters. They should protect the floors with either: building paper, cardboard, ram board, or bed sheets. Do not use tape directly to the sealed floors and do not use plastic on the floors. We do offer the service of protecting the concrete floors for an extra charge and waxing the floors after construction has been completed. Please give us a call in the earlier stages of the construction of the home; we can then go into more detail on what needs to be protect, so you can get the best price and the best possible looking concrete floors.
